Online Portfolio Part Two

A1 expressive pieces

Expressive piece one- November 2015
Acrylic on paper

Expressive Piece two- November 2015
Acrylic on paper

Expressive Piece three- November 2015
Acrylic on Paper

The above pieces were all created in under five minutes, using large paintbrushes and palette knives. I wanted to work more freely and restrict myself, in terms of timing, to see what I could do in a short space of time.

Acrylics on paper

Peter Hallam inspired work painted with acrylics on paper using wall brushes and palette knives. I am planning on creating more of these for my 'identity' project.

I have been working in the style of Franz Kline, using wall brushes and black and white acrylic to paint black 'fruit' and 'vegetable' shapes, linking to my theme and previous work, and adding the white acrylic to reproduce the style of Kline

Acrylic, ink, sand, plaster and mixed papers on canvas fabric

To further develop my Kline inspired work, I drew inspiration from his colour work and added ochre and dark blue tones into a painting on canvas fabric. I mixed the paints with plaster and sand to add texture and thickness to the finished piece. Whilst it was drying, I tore up vintage papers and added sections of collage to my piece. Lastly, I dripped black ink onto the piece, which I think brings it all together and sets it apart from the work of Kline.

These photographs were taken at the Quayside in Newcastle on a misty day. I set myself two tasks; to photograph colour and to capture the atmosphere of that particular day because of the weather. My inspiration for my colour images was the work of Saul Leiter, as I find his view of the world in a more abstract way very unusual and inspiring.

These photos were taken in my local town of Whitley Bay at night, and I used manual focus to blur the lights, and create a more abstract photograph. These are all preparation for my final coursework piece.
