Two years of blogging

Two years ago, I created a Google account and the blog 'Holly Olivia Creates', where I wanted to showcase the clothes I was making in my spare times and my AS textiles class. Two years, two awards, one name change and countless layouts later and here I am! Although I dabbled in lifestyle, beauty and even food blogging, I have discovered that fashion blogging is what I really love doing.

As someone who has had a deep interest in clothing from a young age, blogging about fashion seems second nature to me. I could waffle on all day about the fabrics, techniques and embellishments on clothes but, recently, styling has become my main point of interest. Up until now, I have never had a paying job. This meant that I could only spend money on clothes sparingly, scouring Depop and Ebay instead of the high street. I feel like this is the best way to shop, in a more eclectic manner. Rather than having every item I am wearing being from Topshop, I prefer to mix secondhand/vintage, high street and more high end pieces- such as my Vivienne Westwood bag. This has allowed me to create my own style and I love being able to share it with my readers!

Embroidered blouse

Blouse- Zara (similar, similar) Hat- HM (similar)    Jeans- New Look    Choker- New Look    Sandals- Sainsbury's (not online)   Jacket- River Island, years ago   Bag- Cambridge Satchel Company
Last Sunday, we headed into North Shields for the food festival, which is always one of the highlights of my year. I love food anyway, and there is always live music and plenty of good food available- so it is the perfect day out! North Shields has some really pretty streets around it- which are perfect for taking outfit photos on, obvs.

Styling band shirts

Styling specific items of clothing is a concept which I am hoping to explore more on here! I don't always have money to buy new trends and pieces to style, so needed a new concept to re-style pieces I already own. The first installation was inspired by my post where I wore my Muse shirt, as I had comments from people who hadn't worn band shirts since their teens or who didn't feel comfortable styling them. Band shirts are so easy to style, in my opinion, and are also a fab way to support bands since so many seem to be breaking up due expenses. There are some really well designed and cool band shirts nowadays, meaning it isn't always obvious that you are wearing merch.

As you may or may not know, I recently entered the world of work. I am currently doing a year long apprenticeship as a marketing assistant. I wasn't keen on the idea of suits, so was relieved that I am able to dress more casually at work. Prints and colours are my thing, and I wasn't keen on giving them up so wanted to share how I style these stunning printed trousers for the office!

Long time blog readers may remember my fringe from last year, but since I started growing it out in November, I have been obsessed with getting it back. My 'hair and beauty' Pinterest board is crammed full of photos of fringe-inspo and was constantly stalking bloggers with fringes, so it seemed only right to give in and get it cut back in when I went to the hairdressers last week.

My top picks in Brighton

Recently, I have abandoned my more lifestyle centered posts in favour of more fashion content, following a Twitter poll on what content people prefer from me. However, I found some beautiful gems in Brighton and HAD to share them on here, incase anyone is in need of some inspiration of where to go when they're there!

Magazine Brighton- Forfars Bakers Ltd, 22 Trafalgar St, Brighton BN1 4EQ

I love independent magazines such as Betty, Oh Comely and Frankie, and Magazine Brighton is full of beautiful, independent publications! I was VERY controlled and only bought the new Betty magazine, but could have easily gone into debt from buying every fashion magazine that they stock. Situated just off the lanes, it is so easy to get to and is still nestled among plenty of other fab shops.

A touch of copper

So, yes, the location of these photos is veeery classy. I also shot these photos on the same day as my previous post, which resulted in outfit changes in the Brighton library loos. However, I felt like the elegance of this dress needed dressing down with some urban graffiti and apparently some colourful bins.

Pyjama style

We all know how flipping comfy pyjamas are so, the fact that pyjama-esque clothing is on trend, is one of the best things ever. Loose, flowy clothing is so comfortable- especially in warmer weather! I have already featured this cami on here, but I wear it SO damn much, that it'd be impossible to not feature it at least twice.
