Archive by Alexa

If you've been following my blog for a while, you may remember how disappointed I was with the last Archive By Alexa collection at Marks and Spencer. However, when I saw the new collection, I instantly fell in love with so many of the pieces. In fact, I was there at 8.30am to be one of the first in Newcastle to try it on, which caused a small crowd of M&S staff to wait for me outside the changing rooms and ask me a lot of questions. I ended up getting three pieces from the collection, and obviously had to share them here!

Shirt- Alexa Chung x M&S       Skirt- Alexa Chung x M&S      Baker boy cap- Depop      Tights- Primark       Shoes- Next (old)

This first look features the Albion Shirt and Kirkgate Mini. The skirt is definitely my most worn piece so far, I love it! It is the perfect A-line shape and the high shine finish adds a slightly rock and roll edge, the detail on the zip is also really cool, I am slightly obsessed. The sizing is spot on, I am usually a size 4/6 in skirts, and the size 6 fits me perfectly, it is also the ideal length for me- I am a huge fan of mini-skirts! The Albion Shirt didn't automatically draw me in, until I saw it on other people on Instagram and went to try it on. The pattern is inspired by the fabric of Chinoiserie designs of 1930s silk dressing gowns, and the fabric feels such a lovely quality. I think that this is such a versatile piece; it goes so well with the Kirkgate Mini, but also goes with jeans, pinafores, dungarees and shorts for summer.

I styled both of these pieces together (inspired by the mannequins in M&S Newcastle!), and added my trusty fishnet tights and baker boy cap for a more 'me' look. I also added a ribbon choker, as I felt like this added a bit more edge and made the shirt feel slightly less feminine.

The second look features the Aire Shirt as well as my beloved Kirkgate Mini. The Aire was the first piece from this new A/W collection which I saw, and instantly loved. I am a bit of a magpie, so the silver colour and glitter elements automatically drew me to it. This shirt is based on an 80s number, and I think it is perfect for the festive season!

Shirt- Alexa Chung x M&S         Skirt- Alexa Chung x M&S        Tights- Primark       Boots- Office            Baker boy cap- Depop

I had someone on Instagram ask me about the Aire, as they'd heard mixed reviews about it. As much as I love the look of it, the fabric isn't the comfiest and is slightly stiff, however; sizing-wise it's perfect! Even though I originally mainly wanted this piece from the collection, I have to say that the Albion Shirt has definitely stolen my heart more.

Before the collection launched, I had seen the Aire and Kirkgate styled together on Alexa, and it really is a winning combo. Add some statement tights (and end up with freezing cold legs- worth it), silver boots and a trusty baker boy cap to keep the rain off you and you are good to go!
