Nailing the A/W16 trends

Hey, hey! So, December is finally upon us and it is slightly unbelievable. This year has gone so quickly, it is mad to think that a year ago I was prepping for art degree interviews and now am doing something completely different. Despite deciding that I do want to go to uni next year, rather than stay in full-time work, I have had a lot of time to learn more about myself and what I want to do, as well as grow my blog more and earn myself some money!

I really only started adopting a more fashion-based approach to my blog in April, and my photos and content have improved so much since then. Thanks to this, I have had the opportunity to work with fashion brands for the first time including some which I had admired for years and never thought I would get to work with!

Although I love the festive season (it is also my birthday on the 29th!), I am so excited for January so I can go to my Huddersfield interview! I am currently spending time making mood boards for my portfolio, I'll also be taking my laptop along to showcase my blog.

Shirt- New Look       Coat- Topshop  (Sold out, similar)        Skirt- C/O Shein       Boots- Office       Bag- Kate Spade New York

A few weeks ago now, I worked with a brand called Shein and reinvented the basic button-up shirt with some embroidery, statement tights and of course, a baker boy cap- you can read that post here. I am working with them again today, and they kindly sent me this stunning embroidered skirt. I am not usually one to get behind trends, I prefer to just wear what I want regardless of whether it is in fashion or not, but this season's trends are so me that I had to incorporate more than one into this look!

The first trend I have within this look is obviously the embroidery on the mini-skirt- which is definitely very very mini! I am a huge fan of a mini-skirt as they are so much more flattering on me than a midi or maxi skirt and they add that 60s vibe to an outfit. Velvet is everywhere at the moment as it is so on trend for Winter, the other week one of my favourite style bloggers Megan Ellaby did an Urban Outfitters haul featuring an amazing velvet shirt. Not wanting to fork out almost £50 for the UO version, I picked up this rather similar cropped velvet shirt from New Look, which was over half the price! Velvet and embroidery work oh-so-well together and this combination also ticks off two trends.

Metallics are another of the trends this season (hello silver boots), which I am sure you are already aware of my love for. To top this look off with a fourth A/W16 trend, I wore my leopard print coat. Faux fur and leopard print is everywhere this season and this coat is so warm that it is a no-brainer when I don't want to layer up my look with knitwear.

For accessories, I layered up my James Viana necklace with a New Look silver satin choker, to add some interest to my neckline since the shirt neckline isn't very high. For ages, I had been wanting a really good quality black bag for everyday. Sadly for me, the dreamy Gucci Soho Disco bag was way out of my price range, but then I spotted the the Kate Spade Orchard Street Arla bag on my way through Fenwicks in Newcastle and fell in love. It is so similar to the Gucci one, but over £500 cheaper. I also had the advantage of a Christmas bonus from work and a 30% off Fenwicks voucher! I am going to be doing a full review of this bag in the new year (my schedule is full until then) so look out for that if you are in the market for a new bag.
